Disney-MGM
Studios is recognizable for its giant Sorcerer
Mickey Hat serving as its icon, as well as
for its in-depth exhibit on the life and times
of Walt Disney called One Man's Dream.
Based on a 135-acres tract of land, the park
is themed after popular Hollywood entertainment.
The theme park islaid out in an urban plan
of boulevards and avenues patronized by specific
attractions.
Hollywood Boulevard.
is the main street, dense with an aura of
Depression- era Hollywood circa 1930s. Detectives
from that era, along with starlets and gossip
columnists, bedeck the boulevard. The gigantic
Sorcerer Mickey Hat is located at the streets
terminus. Behind it is Great Movie Ride, which
showcases memorable moments from the silver
screen.
The towering Dinosaur Gertie who serves up
snacks and desserts distinguishes
Echo
Lake. In between two attractions
is the Academy of Television Arts Sciences
Hall of Fame Plaza, which features sculptures
of famous television legends. Around the lake
too, is Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular,
a live show with death-defying vehicle stunts.
Star Tours offers daily trips to the Moon
of Endor, featuring some familiar Star Wars
characters.
First block right off Hollywood Boulevard,
one comes upon Sunset Boulevard,
with its specialized shops that feature gifts
themed to classic films and Disney characters,
especially the Disney Villains. At the roads
end looms Hollywood Tower Hotel, also known
as the frightening Twilight Zone Tower of
Terror.
Mickey Avenue.
is the chosen lair for several of the park's
production facilities. A 25-minute tram tour
in the area allows visitors to peek in at
production on state-of-the-art soundstages
and sprawling backlot sets. Not to be missed
in the area is the stirring homage to Walt
Disney, the One Man's Dream exhibit.
Living up to its namesake,Animation
Courtyard. celebrates the unprecedented
supremacy of Disney animation. In this area
one can find attractions based on Disney animated
classics like the popular Voyage of the Little
Mermaid. Enlightening guests on the other
hand is The Magic of Disney Animation, a tour
educating guests about the production behind
animation.
Streets of America.
is a mesmerizing illusion of New York City,
San Francisco and other American cities condensed
in one place. In this area, one can troop
to the new Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme
Stunt Show. However, kids in the area tend
to go to the Honey, I Shrunk The Kids Movie
Set Adventure, Jim Henson's Muppet*Vision
3D, and Al's Toy Barn.
